The Nurse Who Came from Away: Mildred McKinley, R.N., Depression Era Nurse

The following is one of well over 100 letters Mildred wrote home to her family in Canada.

Tuesday Oct. 28th, 1930

Dear Martha,

Behold in me the Registered Nurse!! Got a notice this morning that I had passed my exams with honors, making 90 or more on each subject-was I surprised? You could have bowled me over with a feather! I have been hoping against hope to get by the passing mark which is 70, and now this great good fortune. When you make 90 or more on each subject you get a blue seal attached to your certificate. Hackett also got a blue seal and Hysert too, Lundgren hasn’t received the news yet.

Love to all and write soon again,

Mildred
